Today’s email is about my $30,000 mistake…

I’m not sure if it was a mistake, or more of an expensive lesson.

But it cost me around 30,000 bucks!

Here’s one of the many quotes from a book called Mastery which helped me come to terms with my mistake:

“Everything that happens to you is a form of instruction if you pay attention.”

– Robert Greene

I was actually relieved after I read that quote, because I learned that after spending the money on tuition and working on the ships for 6 months, I discovered it wasn’t for me.

In case you didn’t know, I was training to become a marine engineer on big cargo ships at the time.

You know, the ships that are out at sea for months at a time, and everyone is counting down the days until their 3 month long shift is over so they can see their families.

Yeah, those ships.

It was so bad that when we docked after being out at sea for 3 months, I skipped my final exam and started working on my online business full time.

I kicked my backup plan to the curb, and was determined to just make it work. And I did.

Various quotes from Robert Greene and other authors helped me understand that sometimes you need to do things to figure out what you DON’T want to do.

So it was an expensive lesson, but it was another sign that my path in life was to create a successful online business.

So what about you?

Have you spent money on an education that you aren’t using?

Are you thinking about going back to school for a new degree?

Do you have a job that you’re not really passionate about?

When I look at the cost of most tuition fees, and the starting salaries of most jobs, my head starts to spin.

People go into major debt for an education that might put them into a job with a ceiling on their earnings. No matter how hard you work, you can’t make more than your given salary. That’s crazy to me.

And some people take decades to pay off their student loans…

That’s also crazy.

If I have any advice for those who don’t love their job, or have debt they need to pay off, or want to remove a cap on how much they can potentially earn, it would be to start an online business.

There are no barriers to entry, and your potential for earnings is unlimited.
